"Many people must see their lives as somehow exemplary. I tend to see my early life as an example of the pathology of 'Middle-America' at mid-century. . . ". A version of poet Rae Armantrout's "True" appeared in Gale Research's Contemporary Authors Autobiography in 1996. Armantrout has published 6 books of poetry, including Extremities, Precedence, Necromance and Made To Seem. She has taught writing at UC San Diego since 1981, and lives in San Diego. "True" is published as Atelos No. 3, in a commissioned series concerned with crossing traditional genre boundaries, "those that would separate theory from practice, poetry from prose, essay from drama, the visual image from the verbal, the literary from the non-literary, and so forth".
